The Houghton Weavers Videos

Taken from their annual Christmas show at Preston's Guild Hall in 2008, The Houghton Weavers play perhaps their best known song "The Blackpool Belle" with The Wingates Band.

In fact - it was not intended that the brass band would play along to this song on the night - it was going to be just the Weavers - but once the song had started, trombonist (and BBC Young Musician Of The Year 2008) Peter Moore could not resist doing his bit - and before you know it, the whole brass band kicks in...

Watch the faces of the Weavers as the genuinely unexpected brass parts come in, and this impromptu performance has a fantastic energy which really captures the fun of one of these special Christmas shows.

Award For Lancashire Folk Legends.
There is always much talk about the Oscars around this time of year but a group of Lancashire folk legends already have one important award in the bag. The Houghton Weavers were last night presented with a special ACE award (Admirable Contribution to Entertainment) in recognition of 34 years at the top of the trade along with numerous untold good works for charities, including PHAB and Lancashire Youth Clubs. They have recorded twenty-five albums and can even boast a Number 1 hit in Tasmania with their perennial favourite "The Blackpool Belle", a song that also reached Number 3 in New Zealand. The award statuette called "Ophelia" - was designed by Lytham based ceramic artist Marie Kershaw for Blackpool good causes group "Through The Net" and has previously been awarded to such respected performers as Susannah York, Paul Nicholas and Brian Cant. The presentation took place after a special performance by the group at the Rotary Club of Blackpool South at the Carousel Hotel to help bring some early cheer for the new year.
